Boxes to collect electronic signatures such as the one above are seen throughout Practice-Web, including on Treatment Notes, Treatment Plans, Patient Forms, and Consent Forms. Signatures are used in place of a traditional pen and paper and are automatically linked to the data they're presented with.

Notes can only be signed by Providers. If a Note is edited or user is changed, the signature will be invalidated. Other users may be able to sign certain signature boxes depending on settings chosen in Chart Module Preferences. 

If a signature is added to a document created in Sheets, the date and time the signature was saved will be automatically archived in the signature box too.

The red X in the upper right clears the current signature. 

The "E" icon in the upper left corner of the box is only present for signature boxes on Procedure Notes and must be enabled in Chart Module Preferences to display. Clicking the E automatically inserts the message:

The stylus icon in the upper right next to the clear signature button allows the individual to sign with a signature pad. It's the preferred option. Data about the signature, including the speed of each stroke, is saved with the signature. 

Topaz Signature Pads are preferred. Practice-Web is compatible with the Topaz T-S460-HSB (Topaz SigLite) or the TL460-HSB (Topaz SigLite LCD). Though the T-S460 is less expensive, it does not display the signature on screen as it's being written. The TL460 does and is considered more patient-friendly. Practice-Web does not sell signature

Another signature pad brand or style may be compatible, provided it's a 1 x 5 pad and has a model number that ends in HSB or BSB to denote it's a USB type that uses the human interface driver.

Signatures may be added with a standard keyboard mouse by clicking and moving the mouse to create the signature. A finger or stylus can also be used to add a signature on touchscreen devices, such as a touchscreen monitor or Windows tablet with Practice-Web installed.
